Innovative Silent Power project showcased with new electric vehicle from VLS

A VLS vehicle was the star of the show at two industry events showcasing innovation in alternative fuels technology recently.

VLS supplied Northern Powergrid’s fleet with three new Nissan e-NV200 electric vans one of which appeared at the Low Carbon Networks & Innovation (LCNI) conference and CENEX Low Carbon Vehicles event. The vehicles have been converted as part of the Silent Power project initiated by Northern Powergrid’s innovation team.  The project aims to use the battery and inverter technology to provide a clean and silent temporary power supply to between one and seven domestic customers during power cuts. The vans are fitted with an onboard energy storage system which provides a quieter, cleaner alternative to the traditional diesel-powered generators currently used.

Justin Bower, VLS commercial manager, said: “The innovative Silent Power project van was one of the main attractions at the events which were attended by delegates from across the utility industry. All three vehicles feature bespoke Northern Powergrid branding promoting the Silent Power project.

“In addition to vans and cars, our utility customers operate fleets of technically complex specialist vehicles and all will need to embrace the advances in alternative fuel technology now and in the future.  VLS is already looking to provide customers with the most effective transport solutions depending on vehicle type and operational demands.”

VLS provides comprehensive vehicle leasing, fleet management and maintenance services.  It supplies, manages and maintains fleets of all sizes with commercial vans, company cars, bespoke specialist vehicles, HGVs and heavy duty plant equipment across the UK.
