Four new tippers join NWG fleet

VLS has delivered four new specially designed 8-wheeled rigid tipper wagons to NWG’s bioresources fleet to transport digested sludge cake for use agriculture.

The cake is the end product of the advanced sewage treatment process at Howdon and Bran Sands and is a class A biosolid which can be used safely as agricultural fertiliser. Its delivery had previously been handled by an external contractor but will now be managed by the NWGrow team with each of the four vehicles tasked with transporting five loads every day.

VLS contract manager, Greg Askell, comments: “We needed vehicles which could carry a 20 tonne payload and this was a difficult target to achieve. I’m pleased to say we found a solution with a local company, Aliweld and we lightened the chassis as much as possible by using alloy wheels, fuel tanks and air tanks. This means the payload on each vehicle is maximised. The tippers have also each had a full livery wrap featuring new NWGrow branding and look very eyecatching on the road.”
